Mindfulness for Individuals

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction was brought to the West by Jon Kabat-Zinn, in the 1970's. He introduced the first structured 8 week mindfulness skills training programme based on his own knowledge of yoga and meditation techniques to work with people with chronic pain.

The most common forms of mindfulness intervention for adults are the 8 week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) to reduce stress and the Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) to prevent depression relapse a therapy recommended by the UK National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE 2009).

Mindfulness based  courses  guide you through practises, that help you to direct attention with open-minded curiosity and acceptance. Therefore you will be able to choose to respond more skilfully to whatever is happening rather than automatically reacting under stress.

Through our courses, we can support you to:

  • be less engulfed and controlled by spiralling thoughts,

  • respond more mindfully rather than habitually reacting,

  • notice out patterns and habits that serve us well and those that don't,

  • manage difficulties and stress more effectively,

  • savour and enjoy the pleasant moments in our lives,

Mindfulness contrasts with mindlessness, a state experienced by most, who move through life rarely noticing the present moment, ruminating on the past, worrying about the future. Therefore making unhelpful judgements coloured by past experiences. Living mindlessly often results in a sense of falling short of expectations, joys and pleasures.
